What is Ayurveda?
 
Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India.
Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vital while realizing their full human potential. Providing guidelines on ideal daily and seasonal routines, diet, behavior and the proper use of our senses, Ayurveda reminds us that health is the balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind, and spirit.

Doshas are one of the most foundational concepts in the tradition of Ayurveda.

 

Essentially, doshas are energetic forces of nature, functional principles that help us to better understand ourselves, and the world around us.

There are three doshas: Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Each are essential to our physiology in some way, so no one dosha is better than, or superior to, any other. Therefore, many ailments result if the doshas are unbalanced.

In Ayurveda, the world is made up of five elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth.  Thus, each dosha is associated with specific elements:

  • Vata: Air & Ether 

  • Pitta: Fire & Water

  • Kapha: Water & Earth

  • Initial Ayurvedic Assessment

  • Follow-up Ayurvedic Session

  • Family Diet & Lifestyle 

 

 

Abhyanga

  • ​A form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves massage of the body with large amounts of warm oil. 

Shirodhada​

  • ​Shirodhara is an amazing, unique body therapy that pours medicated oil on the forehead with a rhythmic, continuous flow. Shirodhara has a profound impact on the nervous system. 

Basti or Poultice Therapy​

  • ​This therapy is for all types of rheumatism, arthritis, pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain kinds of skin diseases.
