Heal My Skin With Ayurveda
Feb 13, 2025Hey Darling! Do you suffer from skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, or acne? If so, you may be interested in learning about the healing powers of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that has been used for centuries to treat a variety of health problems. In this blog post, we will discuss the principles of ayurvedic medicine and how they can be used to heal skin disorders naturally.
Ayurveda is based on the principle that all illness is caused by an imbalance in the three doshas, or energies, of the body. These doshas are known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each individual has a unique combination of these doshas, which determines their physical and mental characteristics. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that skin disorders are caused by an imbalance of the doshas that first affect your gut and have to do with the quality of your Rakta Dhatu or Blood.
Ayurvedic medicine seeks to restore balance in the body by using a variety of techniques, including diet, lifestyle changes, and herbal remedies. Ayurvedic practitioners typically recommend dietary changes as the first step in treating any health problem.
Today, I am going to focus on women's skin issues specifically. If you are struggling with any skin issues, pigmentation, skin tags, etc...you might be having trouble with your hormonal levels.
Other things you might be experiencing, are brain fog, always being tired, inflammation, and more.
Ayurveda has a saying, "You are what you eat." If you're eating lots of processed foods, sugar, and dairy...you can expect your skin to reflect that. Ayurveda recommends eating fresh, whole foods that are easy to digest. Foods that will help reduce Pitta dosha in the body are sweet fruits, green vegetables, and lots of leafy greens such as spinach, bitter gourd, and kale. In fact, I have seen the miracle of having Bittergord as food in your diet for a month to heal your skin. Ayurveda also recommends avoiding spicy, sour, and salty foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol. Instead, use Aloe Vera juice and rub Aloe Vera gel all over your body. This has a cooling effect on your system, therefore, cooling Pitta in the bloodstream.
Another benefit of having these leafy greens is that they are blood cleansers and literally flush out the old blood from your system, creating new blood.
In addition to dietary changes, Ayurveda recommends lifestyle changes as a way to heal skin disorders naturally. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that stress is a major cause of illness and that it can exacerbate skin problems. Therefore, they recommend practices such as yoga and meditation to help reduce stress. Ayurveda also recommends getting enough sleep, exercise, and exposure to sunlight.
Finally, Ayurveda practitioners often use herbal remedies to treat skin disorders. Some of the most commonly used herbs for skin problems are turmeric, neem, aloe vera, and Brahmi. These herbs can be used topically or taken internally in the form of teas, tinctures, or capsules. Ayurvedic practitioners may also use other modalities such as massage, aromatherapy, and acupuncture to treat skin disorders.
If you are suffering from a skin disorder, try the following:
-
Lemon, Sugar, turmeric, and baking soda skin scrub: Mix all ingredients 1tsp each with 1/4 cup of water and mix well to create a pasty cream and run on your skin. Wash off for showing shiny skin.
-
Aloe Vera and Besan: There is nothing Aloe Vera can't do when it comes to your skin. Mix it with besan or chickpea flour to make a face pack that will soothe and heal any skin problem.
-
Turmeric, Milk, and honey: This is an Ayurvedic favorite for good reason! Mix these three ingredients together to create a paste and apply it to your face. Leave on for 20 minutes before washing off
-
As mentioned above in addition to introducing leafy greens daily you can start taking Neem and aloe vera internally.
-
Abhyanga or self-massage with organic Coconut oil will also go a long way for your skin. Putting oil on your skin when you already have skin issues might feel wrong but coconut oil is cooling and will reduce Pitta. Sometimes for my Pitta clients, I use Takra or a light yogurt drink as a skin remedy depending on their constitution.
Hope these tips help. To find out more about your constitution and the right healing program for your type of skin, make an appointment with me on the services page.
Namaste!
