Triggers as Gifts Of Awarness
Feb 13, 2025Recently, someone shared with me that my teachings had triggered something within them. My immediate response was, 'Wow, tell me more...'
This interaction reinforced a profound lesson for me. When we teach—or share any part of ourselves—from a place of deep authenticity and heart, it's inevitable that we might unsettle someone. Not everyone will resonate with everything about us, and that's not just okay; it’s necessary. It means that what we are expressing is true and potent, cutting through the surface to touch the deeper, sometimes hidden layers of others' experiences.
I view such moments as compliments. They affirm that I am not merely skimming the surface, but reaching the core of my truth—and potentially, helping others connect with theirs. So, next time a trigger arises, let’s greet it with a sense of wonder and see where it might lead us. After all, each trigger is not just a challenge, but an invitation to expand and deepen our understanding of both ourselves and each other.
In this week's edition, we delve into the powerful subject of emotional triggers and how they serve as mirrors to our deepest fears and unresolved traumas. Understanding and embracing these triggers can significantly enhance our journey towards self-discovery and healing.
Triggers as Mirrors to Our Soul
Often, our most intense emotional reactions are not about the situation at hand but rather a reflection of deeper fears and unresolved issues—what in Ayurveda and yoga we refer to as samskaras. These are the deeply ingrained patterns that shape our perceptions and reactions.
For instance, a simple comment from someone might trigger a feeling of intense inadequacy. Why is that? It’s because triggers act as mirrors, reflecting our internal struggles and unresolved pain. They highlight areas in our lives that require more understanding and healing.
The Power of Curiosity
When triggered, our first impulse might be to react defensively. However, embracing curiosity allows us a moment of pause to ask, "Why does this situation affect me so deeply?" This inquiry is the first step in uncovering the hidden aspects of our fears and the patterns that govern our reactions.
Awareness as the Path to Healing
By identifying what lies behind a trigger, we bring these fears into the light of our consciousness. This awareness is empowering—it gives us the chance to challenge these fears, assess their validity, and ultimately, rewrite our reactions in a way that aligns with who we aim to be.
Embrace the Journey with Self-Compassion
Embarking on this path requires kindness and compassion towards oneself. Triggers are not our enemies; they are invaluable guides pointing us towards the parts of ourselves that need more attention and care.
In every trigger lies an opportunity for growth and healing. Let us approach these moments not as setbacks but as stepping stones on our path to deeper self-understanding and lasting peace. Here is a free 10 minute meditation you can refer to, anytime triggers come by and see what arises...
